Green Men at Large !

May is the time of the Green Man and Mother Nature

Here at Higher Beings Circus we have always loved the mythology of the Green Man. He is the ancient symbol of regeneration and abundance.

In 2001 we made our first Green man on stilts and it wasn’t long before  this unique foliate character found him self walking tall around Greenwich May Fair in London sprinkling rose petals and and a touch  of magic throughout the Fair.

Here we are back in 2004 when the Trago Garden centre in Devon enjoyed its grand opening day.

This year on May 4th, in celebration of  their 20th year, our  delightful and lineup of performers includes a combination of juggling, diabolo, human statues, and hedge people, helping create a vibrant and exciting atmosphere for visitors to enjoy.

The month of May wouldn’t be complete for us  without appearing at Toby Bucklands Garden Festival, which continues to be a huge success and is enjoying it’s 10th  year at Powderham Castle on the 3rd and 4th of May. We always enjoy performing at this vibrant Spring event.

Nobody should miss the 9th Annual festival of the Green Man  at Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park, in Cornwall on the 25th and 26th of May. At this enchanting event  you can enjoy live music on the quayside , traditional Morris dancing , local food and drinks and take in the beautiful surroundings of the estate.  You will easily spot four of our magnificent stiltwalkers who are looking forward to meeting you .

This blog post could not be written without fondly  remembering Laurence Wedge,  one of our founding partners who graced the Pilton Green Man Festival for 15 years , leading the parade as the Green man on stilts.  We like to think that Laurence would be incredibly proud of his daughter , our very own Circus Elsa, who has followed in his theatrical and flexible footsteps performing with us here at Higher Beings Circus.
