Under the Knife

Have you ever had surgery? What for?

Almost exactly a year ago, I was taken by ambulance to the hospital and spent a few days on a high dependency ward. The doctors booked me in for emergency surgery to have my infected gall bladder removed. The timing of the sugery couldn’t have been worse as it was at the height of our summer season.

Once the pain relief kicked in, I kept myself very busy from my hospital bed by answering emails and booking in performers to cover me at events , which I suppose is just one of the joys of being self employed !

Apparently, the operation was tricky, and an extra surgeon was called in, but after 3  hours in theatre they took me to the recovery ward.

2 weeks later, we took the circus to the YNot festival in Derbyshire.  I was under strict instructions not to lift or carry anything , which is nearly impossible ! I found myself taking some early nights in the lorry bunk bed, feeling very grateful to be feeling better.

It all seems like a long time ago now. The ambulance crew and the hospital staff were all amazing . What hero’s, thank goodness for the NHS.

It’s full steam ahead this weekend with circus workshops , circus shows, stiltwalking , bubbles, and fire. I do feel blessed to be happy and healthy , loving my enabling work and circus work .
