Are you patriotic? What does being patriotic mean to you?

For us, being patriotic simply means you love the places, people and culture that make your country unique. Patriotism is about welcoming change as well as celebrating traditions. With this in mind, here is our slightly obscure and light-hearted British patriotic pick and mix menu
Local and regional quirks.
We love our regional differences, from our myriad of accents and dialects. to our distinct regional foods . Where else can you enjoy a Dorset Nob with a nub of cheddar cheese , and a pint of Somerset scrumpy?
Which brings us swiftly on to

The great scone debate
Here in the West country we love our traditional cream tea with a fat scone , plenty of cream and jam. The fact that the Cornish and Devon folk can’t agree on weather to put jam or cream on their scone first, adds to the charm of this quintessential teatime treat
A nice “Cuppa’ Tea

Our Ringmasters legendary quarterly trips to Whittards stock up the tea cabinet with Lapsang Souchong , Earl Grey and Oolong Tea, to name just a few. We are a nation of tea drinkers. Here at Higher Beings Circus, we are certainly prolific tea drinkers embracing the varied cultural heritage of the humble cuppa
Unusual local traditions
We love the UKs regional and local traditions. Here are a few that spring to mind.
- The flaming tar barrels of Ottery St Mary
- Cheese rolling in Gloucestershire
- Eistedddod in Wales
- The Obby Oss of Padstow
- The Exmoor Boarder Morris Men
- The world famous Bridgwater Carnival
- The Pilton Green Man Festival
- Glastonbury Festival
Dandy Dinmonts, and old English sheep dogs

Are we a nation of dog lovers ? The Jack russel terrier has its origins in Devon, and we must confess to having a soft spot for them, along with Dandy Dinmonts, sheep dogs , and Norfolk terriers.

If appreciating living in, and enjoying our country with all it’s quirky traditions , places and people means that we are patriotic , then we will certainly wave a flag to that. just as our stiltwalkers are doing in this photograh, taken on Plymouth Hoe during the great British Firework Championships.
